MEND is a non-profit, church-based and mission-driven organization. We exist to provide a community service by renting our apartments to our clients at “below-market rents” so that the apartments are “affordable” to the individuals and families in need.

While our rents are low, our expenses are not. MEND incurs “market-rate” expenses to manage, maintain and repair our housing developments. Utility (water, sewer, gas, electricity) costs are always rising. Outside contractors (painters, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc.) charge us market-rate fees for their services.

Since it is hard for us to make our revenues (apartment rents) match our expenses, MEND annually solicits charitable contributions from the general public. We do direct mailings and we hold special fund-raising events like Dinner Dances and Golf Outings. We raise funds to support our annual operations and we raise funds to build an endowment fund.

MEND is recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a public charity under section 509(a)(1) of the IRS code and as a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Contributions to MEND are tax deductible under section 170 of the IRS code.
